Hyaluronic Acid: An Anti-Aging Super Ingredient

Hyaluronic Acid is a compound that occurs naturally as a youth-supporting element of every tissue of the body, with the highest concentrations occurring in areas such as skin, cartilage and eyes.

Hyaluronic Acid is the natural gel between skin cells that serves as a cell protecting water reservoir for cells. It has an immense capacity for attracting and holding water to skin.

As we age, skin loses Hyaluronic Acid and the ability to hold sufficient water.  The loss of Hyaluronic Acid from your skin as you age results in a loss of firmness, decreased elasticity, and increasingly drier skin, which is more susceptible to the formation of lines, wrinkles, and sagging.

Feeding new Hyaluronic Acid to skin can help hydrate skin’s intercellular reservoir, raising skin’s moisture level, and smoothing down age lines while plumping and softly firming skin surface.

Enter Sodium hyaluronate. Sodium hyaluronate is an all natural Hyaluronic Acid that has a small molecular size and is able to hold more water than any other natural substance—up to 1,000 times its weight in water! Its small size means this super-acid can penetrate deeply into skin to attract and maintain water reserves. Sodium hyaluronate also promotes blood circulation and nutrient absorption in the skin to support a normal metabolism.

The intense moisturization that comes with topical application of Sodium hyaluronate allows for the skin to operate at a higher capacity to provide a better defense against environmental assaults and other aging effects. Super-sized hydrating properties allows Sodium hyaluronate the opportunity to provide smoother, softer skin with decreased wrinkles and an all-around fuller appearance.

At 7 Day Glow we use four different types of Hyaluronic Acid (Sodium hyaluronate) in our HYDRATE Moisturizing Mist to create a network that targets different layers of the skin, locking in moisture from the outside and holding on to that moisture in order to improve skin elasticity and repair damage.

1. Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer - provides a protective dense film on the skin surface reducing water loss while also providing 24 hour moisturization, anti-pollution, and anti-UV support.

2. Sodium Hyaluronate - holds water to the surface of the skin.

3. Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate - firmly adheres to the outermost layer of the skin to help repair damage and provide yet another layer of hydration.

4. Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate - rapidly penetrates the dermis and epidermis to hydrate and restore skin from the inside.

We opted to use Hyaluronic Acid as an ingredient in one 7 Day Glow product, HYDRATE Botanic Elixir. HYDRATE can be misted on several times a day and can be misted over the entire body and hair to provide as much or as little support as your skin needs.

Hydrate Moisturizing Mist

I use HYDRATE right after cleansing in place of toner. I also use HYDRATE to set my makeup with one spritz after applying makeup. In the Summer I keep a bottle in the fridge to use as a cooling mist on hot days. Lastly, I mist HYDRATE over my entire body before applying body oil or body lotion to help lock moisture in.

We also included our multi-dimensional Hyaluronic Acid blend in our EYE NUTRITIVE Daily Cream. The goal of EYE NUTRITIVE is to nourish and hydrate the delicate eye area. Hyaluronic Acid is a great start to keep this area supple and moisturized. I love to use EYE NUTRITIVE in the morning and our EYE NIGHTLY REPAIR SERUM in the PM. Together, these two products area  game changer for anti-aging, brightening the eye area, and reducing dark circles and under-eye puffiness.
